The messenger's words don't actually reach the groundskeeper at first, so caught up in his rage as he is. The flowers aren't the only victims of his anger; he tears branches off of shrubbery and rips vines down from trees once he's done with the flowerbed. He only stops once the Fairest's voice reaches his ears. But, even still, he glares at the other servant as if it's him who has done the invisible offence that angers the Darkling.
"What does it look like I'm doing?!" he shouts back, gesturing with his arms to the floral destruction all around him.
