Somebody is doing backwards shadow puppets. Or at least, that's what the kitchen fire figures, because that's what that thingy on the wall looks like. The kitchen fire looks at it, and looks around for the source. A lamp, perhaps, and amusing shape cut in a lamp that turns and...animates?

It's when he eventually looks up, and sees the bright floating form that he thinks he has a probable source. So he sits down, and looks back at the wall, and brings orange wriggling sparks into being, to coalesce and form tentacle-things beside the initial ones, the ends of them pretending to prod at the other light-ones.
