"I see," she says, disappointed at this new unfortunate discovery. She's happy for him, though. He seems quite enthusiastic about it, and she doesn't want to spoil his fun. "It sounds interesting, and I think the scribbles in the margins fit into what you've said well." Things like I HATE THIS and DESTROY make much more sense when put in the context of undesired work.

This does raise another question, though... "I wonder why you can read it while I cannot." she adds. Considering they can understand each other just fine, they have to be speaking the same language. Does that not apply to reading certain books?
